You don't have to be a fan of these stars to fall in love with their celebrity car collections.
All car enthusiasts have imagined their dream collection. It might include rare early autos or examples of the most exotic cars in the world. Whatever you're picturing, these are the cars you would buy first if money were not a factor, as is the case with the best celebrity car collections.
Well, many of the biggest stars out there don't have that hurdle and can keep adding valuable vehicles to their fleets. You might be familiar with a few of the famous collectors on this list. But you probably don't know all of the incredible gems hidden within their massive garages.
Of course, a dream garage means something different to everyone. These celebrity car collections reflect the personality of the stars who put them together. From a fleet painted all white to an incredible array of European horsepower, each star has his or her own style. Just like yours would if you had a blank check, celebrity car collections serve as an extension of their owners. Keep reading for a list of my all time favorites.
6 of the Top Celebrity Car Collections
No matter their profession or industry, the celebrities on this list all share a passion for cars! See if any of your favorites made the list:
1. Shaquille O'Neal
I find Shaquille O'Neal's incredible selection of customized rides fascinating for several reasons. Not only is there his famous effort to include a Superman logo on all of his cars. He goes way beyond that and makes his vehicles one of a kind in other ways too. Most notably, a height of more than 7 feet means he won't fit in a Honda Fit. Even some of the big cars and trucks in his collection must be modified to accommodate his frame.
But let's get to the actual cars in his collection. His style is customization, both out of a sense of expression and necessity to allow him to squeeze inside. Paradoxically, one of the cars is a tiny Smart ForTwo convertible! He's also picked up a rare Vaydor recently. And he uses a massive, commercial grade Ford F-650 as his personal pickup truck. Among his other incredible rides are a stretch Lamborghini Gallardo and custom Cadillac Escalade.
2. Reggie Jackson
Many of the celebrity car collections in this list have a common theme. Few are as pronounced as baseball legend Reggie Jackson, though. He once set a goal of owning a fleet of cars displaying each of Chevrolet's major engines under their hoods. It's not clear how close he is to that dream, but his garage is filled with some classic Chevy models.
He also has plenty of stunning vehicles from other auto makers, too. A couple of his more notable items are a 1969 ZLI COPO Camaro and a 1941 Willys Steel Coupe. Jackson recently discussed his auto collection candidly, revealing the three cars he considers his favorites.
The first is a 1977 Rolls-Royce Corniche convertible he bought the day after hitting three consecutive home runs in a game. Another favorite is the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 he bought in 1971, shortly after his career began with the Oakland Athletics. Finally, he includes his 1962 Corvette -- the last year Chevrolet made the iconic first generation model. Purchasing that car in 1978, he said, allowed him to realize a dream that began when he first saw the car in high school.
3. Snoop Dogg
Rapper Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, has often included cars in his rhymes. As the adage goes, art imitates life with an impressive collection of vehicles in the West Coast legend's garage.
Like many of those described in his songs, his fleet is packed with lowriders. Some celebrity car collections include the latest models and newest trends. Snoop Dogg, however, opts for a style all his own. Built on his love for customized and lowered classics, he makes each one a unique expression of his style. One particularly eye catching example is a 1967 Pontiac Parisienne with a Los Angeles Lakers theme. The purple and gold custom paint job is just one of the unique looks in his collection.
4. John Cena
John Cena has made a name for himself in multiple arenas. He started off as a pro wrestler in the 1990s. Then, following the lead of wrestlers like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, he moved into other forms of entertainment. He's since delved into professions including rapper and actor. The latter has resulted in several significant roles in major motion pictures in recent years.
Many of his appearances on screen and off are defined by Cena's hulking physique. While he has built a lasting reputation in part because of his muscles, his cars can say the same. It's clear he has a type when it comes to what he buys for his garage. Many are American muscle cars from the peak era of Detroit's big block engines.
Some of the stand out models in his collection are a 1966 Dodge Charger, 1970 Plymouth Superbird, 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge, 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator, and a 1971 Ford Torino GT. Cena takes his muscle cars seriously. While many stars have showed off their celebrity car collections, he took it further. Cena put out a DVD a few years ago so his fans could check out his unique rides.
5. Jay Leno
Former late night talk show host, Jay Leno, has one of the most famous celebrity car collections in the world. It's also one of the most valuable and most unique. He has an entire television series built around his love of his own cars and autos in general. Just wait until you look at some of the rare gems inside of his massive garage, though. You will immediately get an idea of why it's so well known.
Some are incredibly old, including one that's been rolling for well over 100 years. Leno's 1906 Stanley Steamer Vanderbilt Cup Racer is actually powered by steam and made of wood! It's an incredible relic that the funny man is still able to drive. One ill fated trip, however, ended when the car caught fire. Despite its prehistoric engine, it can still keep up a steady speed of 65 miles per hour.
On the other end of the spectrum, Leno's garage is stacked with supercars like a 2017 Ford GT. This is one of the most elusive and powerful autos on the market. Only 500 were made. Leno ordered his with a custom orange and black paint job. He certainly has some of the most unique cars in his garage!
6. Ralph Lauren
Ralph Lauren is a fashion icon who has helped set the standards of style for decades. So you might expect his car collection would include some of the most beautiful models ever produced. And you'd be right. He has been adding some of his favorite vehicles to the mix for nearly half a century.
Lauren first started collecting in 1970, the same year he launched his career as an independent fashion designer. He bought himself a brand new Mercedes 280 SE 3.5 convertible. Lauren has been adding to it ever since.
His is now one of the most valuable celebrity car collections on earth. It is worth an estimated $350 million and includes an array of beautiful cherry red convertibles. If you think you see some of these flowing lines in his clothes, don't be surprised. He has previously confirmed elements of his fashion line have been inspired by his cars.
Celebrity car collections are among the coolest ways to drive vicariously.
There's no question that the rich and famous are able to live a luxurious life. While we might all aspire to that lifestyle, most of us won't attain it. That's why shows like MTV Cribs have been so popular in our culture. Most of us secretly -- or not so secretly -- love to watch the lives of the opulence on display. In Hollywood and beyond, a lot of celebrities are more than happy to oblige.
For car lovers like me, I'm always most interested when stars show off their celebrity car collections. I'll admit it, I'll take any opportunity to drool over beautiful vehicles. I've gone out of my way to visit auto museums. I've even pulled into car lots without any intention of making a purchase just to check out a car. But there's a special thrill in seeing a big star's huge collection.
Which were your favorite celebrity car collections?
There are countless other examples of celebrity car collections that couldn't possibly fit into one comprehensive article. But I did include my favorites. These are cars one can watch and really appreciate why they made many of the purchases. They might not be the cars and trucks I would pick, but I respect their decisions. And until I become a multi millionaire like they are, I'll settle for a garage in my budget while the stars cruise around and enjoy the view.
