A Bit About Power Couples and Their Bonds

The definition of a power couple is two people who are married to each other, or in a relationship with each other, and both have successful careers in entertainment or politics. When combined, these power couples can make a huge difference in their specialized sector.

What Can We Learn From Power Couples?

There are plenty of things we can learn from power couples. The first one being that they remain curious and never act on it. Instead of making a snap decision, or blaming someone else when things go wrong, they check themselves first. For every decision they make, they consider their partner’s happiness.

Becoming excellent at problem-solving is a great way to keep a relationship or marriage strong. These power couples are a team who work together to find a solution, rather than fighting with one another. Of course, they’ll have disagreements and arguments like any couple, but for the situations that truly matter, they work with their partner as you would with a co-worker.

Another quality of these power couples is that they bring out the best in one another. They’re incredibly skilled and want to see their partner being the best version of themselves. They learn what works best for the other person too in order to work on their strengths. Specifically, they source what keeps their partner motivated and happy. It’s as if the other person is in their head and can sense that something’s wrong without the person having to admit it.

Power couples improve what they can change and accept what they can’t. Successful power couples set important goals in their relationship and individually, which are realistic whilst challenging. By rewriting the rules, there’s more flexibility to grow individually and as a couple to create the perfect happy ending.

Our Favourite Six Power Couples

We’ve created a list of our favourite power couples, including reasons and their net worth. From each of these, we hope you can gain an insight into their life, as well as some advice and tips for your own life and relationship.

Of course, we haven’t been able to include a full list of our power couples. One not in the list are John Lennon and Yoko Ono who caused considerable controversy. The two stayed together for 12 years before John’s tragic death.

Johnny Cash and June Carter are also another of our favourites. After a 13-year friendship, the pair married for 35 years before Carter’s death in 2003. After four months of her death, Cash passed away to complications from his diabetes. However, people have suggested that his heart was affected by the death of his wife.

Let’s take a look at the six power couples which have made an impact around the world.

1. Michelle and Barack Obama

Former President Barack and the First Lady Michelle are one of the ultimate power couples and loved by millions. In 1989, they had their first date when she was his mentor. About a month in, he asked her out and she thought it was a little tacky so soon. The pair started by having lunch at the Art Institute of Chicago and took a stroll. Michelle said in an interview, “he showed all the sides – he was hip, cutting edge, sensitive”.

Two years later, the pair got engaged in a simple way. Michelle said that the waiter come over with the dessert and a tray. There was a ring on the tray and of course, she said yes. Even still, there have been so many romantic moments that have made them loved by the world. In 2015 at a State Dinner, she was photographed sorting his tie. They’ve been spotted sharing tender moments throughout their time together. In particular, they were spotted sharing a kiss during the Presidential Inauguration Parade in 2013.

Michelle’s net worth is $11.8 million and Barack’s is $40 million. They’re so influential because they’re good and genuine people. Their combined personalities are down to earth to everyone they meet, from all walks of life.

2. Beyonce and Jay Z

One of world’s favourite power couples is Beyonce and Jay Z. After knowing each other professionally for a year, they began dating in November 2001. Two years later, rumours spiraled that the pair were dating, though they remained quiet and claimed they were just friends. It wasn’t until 2004 that the couple appeared on the red carpet together for the first time. The pair wore matching outfits, presumably, as a way to communicate their new relationship with the world.

On April 4, 2008, the pair married at a private ceremony at Jay Z’s Tribeca apartment in New York. Instead of exchanging rings, they both got matching IV tattoos on their ring fingers. People love how ‘human’ they are all the time. It’s clear that they’ve both been tough times and are stronger than ever. As they’re both influential in the music world, people love to see them perform together. The pair are so clearly in love and are happy to show the world their romance for one another.

In 2018, the pair have climbed to a combine net worth of $1.16 billion dollars. According to Forbes’ list of America’s Wealthiest Self-Made Women, Beyonce totaled a personal fortune of $350 million. Whilst Jay Z, soared to $810 million.

3. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend made the list of power couples because the pair are loved by millions across the world. Their sense of humour and sarcasm towards one another shows online, specifically via Twitter. In 2007, the 21-year-old model starred as John’s love interest in a music video for his song ‘Stereo’. Chrissy told Cosmo that she walked into John’s dressing room to meet him and he was ironing in his underwear. After she joked that he did his own ironing, she gave him a hug and things began to romantically blossom.

At the very beginning of their relationship, they started texting a lot and began to see each others’ humour. John admitted that he started to fall in love with how engaging, witty and funny she was, and he wanted to be around her often. In September 2013, the pair tied the knot at an intimate ceremony at Lake Como in Italy. She said that she wished he’d be the man she’d marry and have children with. That wish came true, and the two have been in love ever since. Three years later, they welcomed their first daughter, Luna.

The pair have a combined net worth of $50 million, though they’re not always keen to splash out their money on things like private flights.

4. Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham

Another of our favourite power couples is Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham. In 1986, the pair began dating when Stedman was a divorcé. Oprah opened up to the public saying that not everyone liked the handsome, former college basketball player initially. The couple had been dating for five years and decided to move in together. In 1992, the pair got engaged and the proposal reportedly took place in their Indiana home. In less than a month of their engagement, it was nationwide news, to then be called off. The couple decided to not marry because that would be traditional and their relationship is very much untraditional.

Their relationship is what everyone aspires to have. Her companion of 30 years is still very much the love of her life and she has publically called him her rock. Everyone loves Oprah because she completely embraces who she is – including admitting she’s previously had issues with her body image. She taught us to never give up on our hopes and dreams, and truly is the epitome of a rags to riches story. Stedman holds many titles – including an author, motivational speaker, businessman, dad and granddad. Their admiration for one another is contagious and it’s so refreshing to see a celebrity couple who have been together for more than 32 years. They both have their own goals and ambitions and respect one another’s views and spiritual beliefs.

The pair have a net worth of $3.4 billion dollars, with Oprah reaching $3.1 billion this year.

5. Victoria and David Beckham

The story of David Beckham falling in love with the former Posh Spice is seriously the cutest love tale of all time. During the film clip of Spice Girls’ 1996 Say You’ll Be There, he saw her on the screen and said “that’s the girl for me and I’m going to get her. She’s my idea of perfection”. Victoria had a secret crush on him and regularly looked through pictures of him in magazines. In his autobiography, David said “my wife picked me out of a soccer sticker book. And I chose her off the TV. It felt straight away like we’d always been meant to be together”.

The pair went on to marry and have beautiful children. They are one of the power couples who have faced scandals, intrusion from the Press, and personal demons. However, throughout the Rebecca Loo – a woman David was reportedly spotted with in Madrid – they remained loyal to one another. In fact, the pair continued to work on their marriage despite what outsiders said. After the Manchester, U.K. attack in 2017, the pair donated their royal wedding fund to help victims.

The Beckhams have a combined net worth of $450 million which continues to grow with their individual business ventures.

6. Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith

The couple was first introduced in 1994 on the set of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. At the time, Jada was getting short roles on TV, and auditioned for the role of Lisa Wilkes. However, she was considered too short for the part and the role went to another actress. In 1997, the pair tied the knot on New Year’s Eve. The pair have weathered 21 years of marriage and countless divorce rumours, though always strive above the hearsay.

Watchers admire how they’ve raised their children into ambitious people. Even at a young age, Willow and Jaden are intelligent and have amazing credentials under their belts. Though Jada and Will have been accused of pushing their children too hard, they respect their children’s beliefs and support them unconditionally. Will likes to be open on how the pair have kept such a strong marriage. During an event, he said “Jada is magical. Part of why I love her is things happen in a way they shouldn’t happen. They shouldn’t go that way. She has this magical power”.

The pair have a net worth of $270 million, with Will Smith having $250 million individually.
