How Does it Help to Transition Your Wardrobe Between Seasons?

Transitioning your wardrobe throughout different seasons takes the stress out of deciding what to wear. Instead of buying a new wardrobe of clothes every season, why not recycle what you wear all year round in a creative way? Instead of packing away your winter clothes as spring rolls in, keep everything in its place and revise how to accessorize. This practice saves you time, money, and effort while getting dressed.

Who is This Great For?

If you love fashion, you’ll appreciate the thrill of switching up your wardrobe multiple times a year. Many people fret about what clothes to wear as they enter a new season. However, we don’t want this confusion to stop you from having fun with fashion. Thereby, learning how to transition your wardrobe is great for just about everyone who wears clothes.

What You Need To Follow This Tutorial

When you next spot an item of clothing you’d love to wear, ask yourself how you can mix it up to wear throughout the year. It’s a shame to see stunning pieces thrown at the back of your wardrobe if they’re not suitable for most of the year. There are some basic clothes you’ll need to establish how to transition your wardrobe.

  • Black and white jeans are one example. The former work well for most occasions and will never let you down during the fall and winter months. On the other hand, white jeans are notorious for accentuating your curves. Thanks to their light colour and thin material, they’re practical and comfortable to wear in the summer and spring, but mainly at night.
  • Though you might not necessarily think of wearing a skirt during winter, this is an extremely versatile item of clothing. Opt for a pair of thick tights and ankle boots for fall, and lose the tights and switch to sneakers in the summer.
  • Neutral tops help in transitioning a wardrobe between the seasons. For example, you can choose camisoles for warmer months to pair with a light sweater, or you can wear these underneath heavier clothing for cooler times.
  • A variety of over-wear. Think jackets, blazers, and sweaters. These items are not only practical, but add a splash of color to your outfit. For fall and spring, blazers and sweaters work well to pull an outfit together. On the other hand, jackets keep you warm in the winter months by allowing you to wear them over a wardrobe piece that you may not have originally thought suitable for the season.
  • Accessories help complete any look. Long necklaces with a pendant are great for summer and spring months, while a scarf tops off fall and winter looks. Keep the season in mind to prevent your outfit from looking too heavy or under-dressed.

How to Transition Your Wardrobe Into Different Seasons

Now that you have the basic pieces mastered, it's time to learn how to put everything together. We've broken it down season by season to make the most of your wardrobe. Find the current season to learn how to take your pieces into the coming months.

Winter to Spring

If you’re wondering how to transition your wardrobe from thick, woolly jumpers to skimpy tops and cropped pants, we’ve got you covered. Firstly, buy yourself a pair of white jeans. You can never go wrong with white denim – especially if you keep on top of brightening them up every now and then.

During the winter, accompany your jeans with a thick, lengthy jumper and ankle-high boots. As spring approaches, ditch the thick jumper for lighter t-shirts. Consider the t-shirts’ colour too, as the brighter the better.

Layering is exceptionally useful when learning how to transition your wardrobe from winter to spring. Rather than owning only jumpers and frumpy tops, stick to ample layers of a t-shirt, shirt, body warmer and then, followed by your coat. When the warmer weather makes an appearance, you can easily ditch a few layers to keep you cool.

Spring to Summer

If you have a wardrobe full of clothes, but still nothing to wear, then you might like our second piece of advice. The fit is extremely important when learning how to transition your wardrobe from cool to hot. Custom tailor is the best option, although you don’t want any garments too loose or tight. Cropped blue jeans are a winner pretty much all of the year, except for the colder months. Team your jeans with a crisp, colourful blouse in the spring season.

By the time summer reaches you, slip into flat shoes which show open toes and more ankle. Not only will this keep you cooler, but you’ll look sophisticated. We’re a huge fan of floral prints during the summer season. Therefore, mix up your wardrobe with a floral vest or thin top. Keep accessories to a minimum, but sunglasses are an essential to protecting your eyes and completing the look.

Summer to Fall

As summer begins to disappear, it’s time to thicken up your look and switch to more neutral tones throughout your ensemble. White-leg trousers will never let you down, as they can be teamed with a thick sweatshirt and vest. This style of trousers also complement petite frames as they elongate the legs. Keep a loose-fitting shirt for the summer months and switch to a knitted jumper which is tucked in at the front for a daytime wardrobe look.

Ankle boots aren’t going anywhere any time soon. These successfully look great with jeans, trousers, shorts and wispy dresses. You can also dress them down with your favourite knitwear. Keep the design simple and opt for a dark brown pair to make them suitable for both seasons. With a chunky heel less than 5 cm high, they’re practical for working in as well as comfortable if you’re on your feet most of the day.

Fall to Winter

As the winter months draw in, it’s important to consider your health and ensure that you’re well covered up to prevent your body from getting too cold. When considering how to transition your wardrobe into a colder season, we recommend purchasing accessories. Such examples are: hats, scarves, gloves and thick boots.

Tights are also another example to make a fall skirt more practical. Consider the design of the skirt, though, as you want to avoid vivid colours and floral patterns. Stick to neutral tones and simple patterns (or preferably no pattern at all). You can team each of these accessories with jeans and a jacket of your choosing.

Wear tank tops underneath your chosen t-shirt/shirt to keep you warm. There’s nothing wrong with wearing yoga pants on those days when you’re feeling unmotivated or prefer to opt for a comfier outfit. Thick boots work extremely well for winter, whilst pointed boots are stylish and practical for fall.
