A Throwback To The Alexander McQueen Brand and Why We Love it

There are so many fashion designers flooding the scene at any one time.

No matter their background, each one is unique and creative in their own right. Today, we’re taking a look at one of our favourite brands which never ceased to surprise consumers. Let’s celebrate the life, talent and drive of Alexander McQueen, the Alexander McQueen brand, and exactly how he reached success at an early age.

How Alexander McQueen Reached Success

Alexander McQueen was a fashion designer born in London on March 17, 1969. At the young age of 16, he left school when a clothing store offered him an apprenticeship. From there, he moved to theatrical costumiers Angels and Bermans and learned the six methods of pattern cutting. His razor-sharp tailoring skills made Alexander McQueen notorious.

By the age of 20, Koji Tatsuno, a designer who also had a background in tailoring, employed McQueen. He travelled to Milan and Romeo Gigli’s design assistant employed him. When Alexander McQueen returned back to London, he completed a Master’s degree in Fashion Design at Central Saint Martin’s.

In 1992, he showed his MC collection, which Isabella Blow bought. It’s not surprising that he received overwhelming attention as his shows were renowned for its energy, romantic and contemporary nature. Even today, the Alexander McQueen brand is well-known and respected.

About the Alexander McQueen Brand

Alexander McQueen brand quickly became one of the most respected fashion labels in the world. The likes of Gucci and Givenchy oversaw the brand alongside a colleague friend, Sarah Burton. Sarah is originally from Manchester, but lived in London at the time. She became a part of the Alexander McQueen brand during a placement year for her degree. She continues to be a part of the Alexander McQueen brand.

In 2000, Burton was announced as Head of Design for Womenswear and was later promoted to Creative Directory of the entire Alexander McQueen brand. Her talents have been widely recognised. She received Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards for her design and creation of Kate Middleton’s wedding dress.

A True Fashion Icon

Alexander McQueen will always remain in our hearts, and we’re honoured that his amazing work is still with us. What an amazing inspiration he was! After design school, he launched the label and became the head designer for Louis Vuitton’s Givenchy fashion line.
