Loro Piana Opens Biggest-Ever Manufacturing Investment in Italy’s Piedmont Region

Loro Piana has inaugurated an 8,000-square-metre knitwear facility in Italy’s Piedmont region in what represents the luxury brand’s largest investment since its creation.

The new plant in Ghemme is dedicated to knitwear, one of the foundations of Loro Piana’s business, and represents an investment of several tens of millions of euros.

The facility forms part of the company’s strategy of maintaining greater control over manufacturing while protecting the craftsmanship and material standards associated with its products.

Loro Piana chief executive Frédéric Arnault attended the inauguration alongside members of the Loro Piana family and Italian government and regional officials.

The investment comes despite continuing uncertainty across the wider luxury sector, with major fashion houses facing uneven consumer demand in several important markets.

Loro Piana has continued to pursue growth while maintaining a deliberately selective approach to distribution and production.

The company places particular emphasis on rare natural materials, including highly specialised cashmere, where limited supply places practical constraints on how quickly production can expand.

The new facility will also accommodate the Accademia dei Mestieri, Loro Piana’s training school, reinforcing the company’s focus on developing specialist manufacturing skills.

The investment is part of a broader expansion of Loro Piana’s production infrastructure.

The company is also planning a new leather-goods facility in Tuscany, expected to open in 2027, further increasing its control over manufacturing.

LVMH has increased its ownership of Loro Piana to 94%, and the Italian brand has grown substantially in value since the luxury group first acquired its stake in 2013.

The company is approaching €3 billion in annual sales, according to Vogue, potentially making it one of LVMH’s largest fashion and leather-goods brands.

Loro Piana is simultaneously expanding its international retail footprint, with a new Tokyo flagship scheduled to open in October.

The combination of manufacturing investment, controlled retail expansion and continued emphasis on scarce materials illustrates the strategy being pursued by the brand as it grows without abandoning the exclusivity associated with its luxury positioning.
