When traveling in Mumbai, India, the Grand Hyatt Mumbai is definitely one of the places you should consider staying.
What makes for a great hotel experience? The answer to that is complex and often dependent on individual tastes. However, the Grand Hyatt Mumbai certainly has the potential to be one of the better hotel experiences you’ll ever have. It’s a luxury five-star hotel that’s part of the global Hyatt network. Designed by Lohan Associates in Chicago, the distinctive architecture makes this hotel feel almost like some grand embassy or modern-day palace.
Of course, anyone can make a good first impression. It takes a lot of work to provide a first-class luxury hotel experience. We’re going to take a look inside the rooms and under the proverbial hood. If you’re headed to Mumbai any time soon (or even if you plan to go someday) this will help you decide if the Grand Hyatt Mumbai is the place for you to say.
A Little About Mumbai
If anything, the question should be why NOT Mumbai? It’s the most populous city in India and the capital of the state of Maharashtra. The location of the city of the coast of Konkan is not unrelated to the large natural harbor, making it a gateway to the rest of the world. The land under the city has been occupied by humans for at least 4,000 years, and probably even further in the past. Today, Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay during the British imperial rule) is the wealthiest city on the subcontinent. It’s one of the reasons why the Grand Hyatt Mumbai and other hotels in the region stay very busy.
This means that like London, New York, or Tokyo, Mumbai is a center of culture, adventure, and luxury. Home to three separate UNESCO World Heritage sites, the financial capital of India, and home to the scientific community, Mumbai has it all. People travel to Mumbai for business and pleasure, because there is plenty to be had of both. The city is also a melting pot of culture and religions, including the main religions in the country Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam. Because Mumbai is a city of commuters, there is perhaps no city in the world that has better or more varied options for fast food from roadside stalls.
What is Mumbai Like?
Mumbai is, in some ways, like every other major financial center in the world. Yet, in other ways, this city is as unique and vibrant as they come. While many cities across the world, especially in the U.S. and Europe, have a certain “look” to them, Mumbai is an architectural mosaic. In this city you can find a 600-year-old temple, a building that looks transplanted from Victorian England, all in the shadow of a modern skyscraper. However, cities have their own characters and Mumbai’s is a blend of its past.
Also, like other big cities, Mumbai can be very crowded. While there are more than 12 million people living in the city, there are more than 20 million people living in the surrounding areas. Hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of people commute in and out of the city each day. So much so that the city has developed something between its own language and a dialect of Hindi. Called Bambaiya, which blends Hindi with some six other languages, it is spoken by the blue-collar workforce and people in the streets. English is the most common tongue among the white-collar workforce. At the Grand Hyatt Mumbai, you’re likely to be able to hear all of the sixteen languages people in this city speak.
What’s There to Do in Mumbai?
There are many things in this amazing city that can capture your attention, from nightclubs to theaters to fine dining. However what Mumbai has that other cities do not is its unique culture. For example, the road side food stalls are more than just fast food. These are like pop-up restaurants in the United States, but these stalls aren’t just some trend. People lead busy lives and want to eat quickly and well. A tour of these stands might not be something you can find officially, but it’s definitely worth your time. You can also use this time to view the city’s unique mix of architectural styles, such as the UNESCO site known for some of the finest Art Deco buildings in the world.
Otherwise, Mumbai is a city of music and performance. You can find contemporary Hindi, Marathi, and Indi-pop music in niche locations in town. Both the Bombay Chamber Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of India make their home in Mumbai. International acts, especially rock, pop, and r&b stars from America are popular here as well. Mumbai is also home to many festivals, a side-benefit to being home to a number of religions. There are city-wide celebrations for Diwali, Holi, Christmas, Durga Puja, and dozens of others.

The customer response to the Grand Hyatt Mumbai is overwhelmingly positive. People are, for the most part, happy with their experiences.
