After comparing a few vacation horror stories, however, we were skeptical. It seems travel issues are among the most common reasons trips derail into regrettable fiascoes. But after reviewing some of the top luxury travel accessories, we have renewed hope that transportation can be enjoyable.

Some of these gadgets were developed to make travel more comfortable. Others are geared toward helping you pass the time. No matter their purpose, the object is clear: make travel less of a hassle.

Even with the so-called convenience of online booking, most folks dread making travel plans. Whether that includes airport security or long days on the highway, there is some relief. Luxury travel accessories add a new dimension to your trips.

What are luxury travel accessories?

Quite simply put, luxury travel accessories include any item meant to make your trip more opulent. As with any luxury item, you'll expect the height in both quality and innovation. Whether cutting edge or a sleek reinvention of an old favorite, these let you bring the comforts of home on the road. (Or in the sky, or on the sea, and so on.) Travel is quite literally a means to an end. Even short trips can become insufferable if you bring the wrong stuff. We've put together a list of the right stuff. And we feel these items represent the upper crust of luxury travel accessories currently on the market.

How do luxury travel accessories enhance your experience?

If you've ever gotten to an important meeting with jet lag, you understand. The travel itself can have a profound impact on your trip. Whether for business or pleasure, the entire thing can be thrown off track by a miserable trip. Now no product (yet) can cure all of the ills associated with travel. But rest assured, when we find it we'll let you know! For now, we can rest a little easier and arrive a little more refreshed because of luxury travel accessories. And arriving in style, whatever that means to you, will set your whole trip off on the right foot. In fact, you might even find yourself secretly looking forward to the trip back home.

Luxury travel accessories: Don't leave home without them!

Once you use some of these products on your travels, you might not ever want to go anywhere without them. You've gone through the effort of making your home and auto as luxurious as possible. You're looking forward to the same when you arrive at your destination. Why would you want to give that up when you're traveling? Regardless of your mode of transportation or your personal tastes, we've got something to make the travel more fun.

You already know you'll need a good pair of noise cancelling headphones for a quiet journey. But if you haven't tried the finest tech to come out of Bose in the past few years, you're missing out. Whatever your favorite luxury audio brand, there's no denying Bose ranks among the top in the industry. That's why it's no surprise the Quiet Comfort 35 wireless noise cancelling headphones rank so high. This is the second series for this high tech option for drowning out the world around you.

Among the many unique features is a noise rejecting dual microphone system allowing for easy calls. It works seamlessly with Siri and other virtual assistants, too. You can control how much noise you want your headphones to cancel. We generally prefer complete isolation on long trips. But you can let some of the background in as needed. Of course Bose makes sure whatever you're listening too is perfectly optimized. That's what the company does best, and it's evident in these headphones. It's got a long lasting battery controlling all of the internal features and it can even be upgraded. That means additional products, like the Amazon Alexa, can be integrated in the near future.

Moving to an even more practical item, here's something combat the eternal problem of travel hair. No matter your style, you probably find that it's deflated if not unkempt when you arrive. You won't have to worry about that if you take the right hygiene products with you. And that definitely includes R + Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo.

Finding the right hair products for your needs is an important step in any situation. But it is especially important when you're traveling. And this dry shampoo is a great choice for a variety of hair types. It's gluten free, vegetarian and vegan, so it fits into most lifestyles. Plus, it just plain works. Rub some of it into your hair for instant volume and body. It adds life to a style deadened by a long trip. The shampoo is actually good for you, too. It's got rice protein, vitamin E, silica and pro-vitamins B5.

3. Flight 001 SpacePak Travel Bag Set

These packing cubes are the gift that keeps on giving. Few luxury travel accessories earn their keep so easily or frequently. You might wonder how packing extra bags inside your luggage makes sense, but try it and see. Instead of getting to your destination with a mess you have to unpack at once, you have options. Just pull out your cube for shoes, for instance, if that's what you need. Leave the rest neatly organized inside the larger bag. Then it's just as easy to pack everything up to go back home.

We've all left the hotel with luggage far more cluttered than when we first packed it. Now it's easy to remember where everything goes -- and where it went. Each bag is custom fit for a particular use. Of course, you can use them for whatever you like, but you'll find they're keenly proportioned for their suggested contents. The three bags in the Flight 001 Spacepak Set are high quality, sturdy containers. There's the largest, which allows you to keep dirty and clean clothes separated. Then a smaller pack stores shoes while removing extra air and taking up extra room. Finally, a toiletry bag keeps things nice and tidy.

4. Apple iPad Mini

This one might just require a slightly different view of something you already have. Most homes have some sort of tablet, if not the Apple iPad Mini. Maybe you've even taken one on a trip before in an effort to help pass the time. But recent developments among online streaming services have made it an even more attractive option. For subscribers to Netflix and some other services, you can download content for later viewing. That means you won't need any Wi-Fi or other internet connection to view your favorite movies and shows.

The only thing you'll need to make sure you have is plenty of battery life. That's one of several reasons we chose the iPad Mini as our favorite. It's lightweight battery still provides up to 10 hours of life. And the 7.9 inch Retina display give you gorgeous graphics to watch whatever you fancy. With an incredible camera and fast dual core processor, you can count on great performance. Arrive refreshed after binge watching your favorite guilty pleasure or classic flick.

5. Diptyque Feuille de Lavande Mini Candle

One of the worst parts of traveling can be the stale aroma upon arriving. Even fancy hotels can have an unfavorable scent. At the very least, it's not like home. And then there's your luggage. Your clothes and everything else can pick up the bland fragrance of your travels. That's not how you want to hit the town on your first night in a new place. We suggest a luxury upgrade on an old classic remedy.

Whether you're a "candle person" or not, there's no denying their ability to fill a room with fragrance. Sure, the cheap ones won't get the job done. But purchase a high quality candle with top notch fragrances and you'll transform nearly any space. Well, one of our favorites for travel (and a host of other applications) is Diptyque. We particularly like the scent of lavender leaves. It comes in a small, travel size version perfect for taking with you on a trip. Light it up when you arrive and bring your favorite scents to life. You could make it the same fragrance that you often burn at home. That way, you'll immediately feel a familiarity no matter where you're staying. Or switch it up and let your vacations have a scent all of their own. Either way, one thing is for sure: Your hotel won't smell stale with one of these candles. And don't forget about your luggage. Tuck the candle in with the rest of your stuff and it will retain the fragrance throughout the trip.

6. Osprey Meridian Wheeled Luggage

It goes without saying that you'll need luggage. What does need to be said, however, is which type you'll get. Take a look around any major airport and find wheeled bags are the most popular. That's for a reason, of course. They're far more convenient to roll behind you than to lug over your shoulder. But these are hardly created equal. You can get a "bargain" set of wheeled luggage and be lucky if it survives a single trip intact. Or you can spend what it takes to get a truly innovative and versatile product that will last years. If it weren't clear, we recommend the latter option. There are few luxury travel accessories as integral to your enjoyment as the luggage you lug with you.

And to that end, we recommend Osprey Meridian wheeled luggage. First of all, it's incredibly lightweight. Store it overhead, toss it in the trunk, whatever makes sense for your travel plans. It has uniquely convenient and protective compartments for a variety of things like laptops. There's a fully detachable day pack and a user friendly main compartment. It have tons of room, which belies its small overall footprint. Not only that, it also offers great organizational touches. Keep your stuff tucked away safely and securely throughout the trip. And an industry leading suspension system makes it a breeze to use as a backpack.

7. 3-ounce Izola Flask (or two)

This recommendation took a bit of consideration. We decided to include a flask, for reasons that are probably obvious if you've ever taken a commercial flight. And then we immediately gravitated to Izola as one of our favorite brands. It's stainless steel models are not only elegant and well made, but easy to store discreetly. Then came the big decision: which size to recommend. The general consensus is that the 5 ounce version is more user friendly. It's still compact enough to tote but contains enough of your favorite elixir to make it worthwhile.

But alas, there's the infamous Transportation Security Administration rule limiting how much liquid you can carry on planes. Cut off at 3.5 ounces, most of us are familiar with the frustration of packing shampoo or lotion. Anecdotal evidence suggests the 5 ounce flasks reliably make it through security. But we don't want to recommend any violations of the law. Plus, we wouldn't want your flask (and liquor) to get confiscated. So the 3 ounce version gets our recommendation on a technicality of sorts. If you'd like, pick up two and fill them up prior to a flight. Sure, it's a bit more bulky, but in the end you've brought along an extra shot. And you know you will be cleared at airport check points. No matter which size you choose, get your Izola flask engraved with a clever drinking related phrase.

8. Suanna iPhone cable 4Pack

Unless you can bet your digital life on the reliability of your travel, we suggest an emergency phone charger. But when you are somewhere that you can plug in easily, it's best to be prepared. That's why we recommend not only a high quality cord, but multiple of various lengths. For trips to unknown destinations, we like to take the 10 foot -- or at least the 6 foot -- cord. That way even if the closest outlet is inconveniently located, it won't interrupt your charge.

Of course you can get multi length iPhone cords from a variety of manufacturers. And most of them are good enough to get the job done most of the time. But these are woven tough enough to take frequent travel and plenty of wear and tear. If you're looking for something to pack and forget about until you need it, check these out.
