Minimalist Bedroom Ideas – How To Live With Less

Is there anything worse than a messy, cluttered bedroom?

I need organization in my living space, and anything less than that is unacceptable. I know -- that sounds a bit obsessive-compulsive (and I would agree) but, hey, I'm a minimalist. This behavior tends to be common amongst those of us who have thrown out all (or most of) our worldly possessions. Even still, that doesn't always mean that conjuring minimalist bedroom ideas on a whim is a small feat! Thereby, this is one major reason why compiling my best minimalist bedroom ideas is important to me.

As a minimalist, living a clutter-free and intentional lifestyle is something I want to share with all of you! Although you may have reservations, it is not as difficult as you may think. To get started you will need to have an idea of what kind of bedroom you want, think about what it will take for you to get there, and then maintain your new clutter-free and intentional bedroom. It's that simple, promise!

You might think it's simple to have a minimal bedroom, right? --  Just don't have as much stuff in your room and all is well? While this touches on the basics of minimalism it's a little more nuanced then that. It's not that simple act of ridding your room of excess and ensuring your actions are intentional and purposeful. In addition, you must buy less! Don't worry...this is for your own good!

Compulsory consumption is the problem that consumes us.

As an individual who wants to drastically reduce the amount of clutter and brainstorm minimalist bedroom ideas, you must understand the psychology of your consumption. A key step of minimalism is to not buy items that you do not need. This is extremely important. It's not consumption that is the problem, it is compulsory consumption.

Are you guilty of this socially ingrained phenomena? If you answer 'yes' to any of the questions below, you may be guilty of compulsory consumption.

  1. Do you ever buy something just for the sake of buying it?
  2. Do you buy items because they are 'cool' or trendy?
  3. Do you feel pressured to buy items because your peers own them?
  4. Do you engage in 'retail therapy'? Do you rely on buying items to make you feel better?
  5. Do you believe that having a higher quantity of luxury items increases your social standing or importance?

Although these are only a few of the situational obstacles to minimalism, they must be overcome to obtain the vision of your minimalist bedroom ideas. Apply these questions next time you feel the urge to swipe your credit card on another pair of shoes. If you master this, then I will guarantee that applying new minimalist bedroom ideas to your life will be much less daunting.

A common misconception about minimalism is that in order to be a true minimalist, your bedroom must be bland with no color or form of life to it. This couldn't be further from the truth -- when it comes to what you need out of your bedroom, you decide!

Identify the minimum amount of tangible objects you need to be completely happy. This baseline is where you find your personal level of intentionality. From here, you are free to decorate and accessorize in the manner that best suits you. When it comes to thinking about minimalist bedroom ideas, the possibilities are endless!

How to bring minimalism into your space:

In the beginning, I struggled with minimalism. If you're like most people, this will likely be a similar experience you have while starting out, especially for the bedroom. The main key is to ensure you have exactly what I needed and nothing more than that. Doing this and amplifying your chance of success become easier once you have a few minimalist bedroom ideas with which to play. Trail and error is necessary, but with the right adjustments and products, your minimalist bedroom ideas can be realized! Here are the items that made minimalism much more enjoyable for me in my bedroom.

A shelf that saves you space

Once I minimized my huge sheves that took all the wall space, I now had ample open space for necessities. What I like to use for my everyday carry essentials is this L shaped shelf by Artifox. Comprise of excellent quality steel, the shelf uses subtle grips on the back to prevent damage to the surface to which it is stuck. Additionally, the shelf is also magnetic for useful accessories! My personal favorites are the pegs which are perfect to hang keys on, or other essentials such as jewelry. Pro tip: Combine a few shelves to create a larger, yet still highly effective shelf. Doing so is a bit pricey, but will certainly enhance your minimalist bedroom!

A bike rack in your bedroom?!

Once I found my L shaped shelf from Artifox, I didn't expect to find anything else of use from them. Until I saw this -- a vertical bike rack that you can put inside your home! As a very frequent bike rider, I loved this immediately. Because one of my biggest fears is that my bike gets damaged by the elements or stolen, this rack prevents both. Now you can save space, protect your belongings, and live a minimal life all at the same time. The rack is also available in walnut and white oak.
